HAMILTON, Ont. — This Friday, the McMaster Marauders (5-1) faced the Nipissing Lakers (1-4) at Burridge Gym.
Right off the tip off Amy Stinson (Hamilton, Ont.) would feed Emily Frankovic (Thornhill, Ont.) for an easy layup. Then after a take away in the Lakers end, Stinson dribbled in for another layup to take the lead by two. Grace Ammendolia (Hamilton, Ont.) then sunk a wide open three to help McMaster hold on to the lead at the end of the quarter.
Stinson would hit a three for the first points of the second quarter. Then despite a run by Nipissing, McMaster would maintain a three point lead going into half time.
The score stayed close in the third quarter. Midway through, Stinson would hit a three and Sophia Urosevic (Kitchener, Ont.) gave McMaster the lead back with a short range jumper.
Jocelyn Newby (Guelph, Ont.) got the first points of the final quarter with a three. McMaster's defense stepped up to help the offense with a few steals which forced a Lakers timeout. Urosevic would end the game with a three to lead the Marauders past the Lakers with a score of 75-64.
On Saturday, McMaster then faced the Laurentian Voyageurs (2-5) at home.
McMaster won 73-61.
McMaster took a lead early with a few threes from Deanna Mataseje (Ancaster, Ont.) and Stinson. The Marauders also added to their lead thanks to multiple steals. Delaney Bourget (Sudbury, Ont.) then finished the big first quarter off with another three to end the quarter up by four.
Cassie Joli-Coeur (Johnstown, Ont.) was strong off the glass early in the second quarter, grabbing a defensive rebound and setting up Bourget for the layup. Urosevic and Newby got hot on the three point line as well, hitting some threes in the second quarter. McMaster was able to go into halftime with a comfortable 43-34 lead.
Stinson added some early points to the score board for the Marauders at the start of the second half and Bourget made a three to keep the momentum going. McMaster ended the quarter up by 16.
Midway through the final quarter Stinson made a three point play, getting the lay up and free throw. Ammendolia and Bourget both made threes to close out the game for McMaster and seal the 73-61 win.
