Ottawa, Ont. — The McMaster Marauders (7-3-0) visited Ottawa to take on the Ottawa Gee-Gees (8-1) and the Carleton Ravens (9-0) in a back-to-back over the weekend.
Game one vs Ottawa (11-22-24)
In game one, the Marauders and Gee-Gees played a tight first quarter.
Emily Frankovich (Thornhill, Ont.) and
Amy Stinson (Hamilton, Ont.) started the scoring for the Marauders.
Deanna Mataseje (Ancaster, Ont.) hit another shot which was creatively set up by
Jordan Denkers (Hamilton, Ont.). Frankovich ended the Gee-Gees 8-0 run with a jumper as the Marauders trailed by two. Denkers nailed a late shot and the Marauders led by one at the end of the first quarter.
The Marauders were ice cold to start the second quarter. Ottawa would add 14 straight points, before Stinson's jumper ended the run.
Grace Ammendolia (Hamilton, Ont.) made a strong rejection on the Gee-Gees scoring attempt. The Marauders were unable to cut into the Gee-Gees lead as they were down by 18 at half-time.
Delaney Bourget (Sudbury, Ont.) and
Cassie Joli-Coeur (Johnstown, Ont.) earned points early in the third quarter for the Marauders. Frankovich buried three baskets and four free throws in a three-minute span keeping the Marauders in the game.
Jocelyn Newby (Guelph, Ont.) and Ammendolia both scored late as the Marauders trailed by 21 with a quarter left to play.
Ammendolia nailed another jumper to get the Marauders started in the fourth quarter. Bourget drilled a three pointer and second-year guard,
Olivia Koffi (Cambridge, Ont.), connected on a jump shot. The Marauders would fall 67-49, falling to 7-2-0 on the season.
Game two vs Carleton (11-23-24)
The McMaster Marauders took on the Carleton Ravens on their second half of the back-to-back. The undefeated Ravens had a dominant start to quarter one as they took a 12-0 lead. The Marauders would fight back as
Amy Stinson (Hamilton, Ont.) scored seven straight points and
Emily Frankovich (Thornhill, Ont.) connected on a triple. After a Frankovich jumper brought the Marauders within two, the Ravens went on a 13-3 run. The Marauders entered the second quarter down by 15 points.
Grace Ammendolia (Hamilton, Ont.) opened the scoring for the Marauders as she drilled a three-pointer. Stinson ended a 7-0 Ravens run. Marauder guard,
Deanna Mataseje (Ancaster, Ont.), nailed her first triple of the game. Ammedolia and Frankovich both scored late baskets as the Marauders headed into half-time trailing by 15 points.
Stinson quickly collected five points on a jumper and triple as the Marauders attempted a comeback. Ammendolia added another triple, continuing her strong game off the bench. Frankovich connected on a jumper, but the Ravens continued to lead by 14.
Stinson had a good start to the quarter as she added four early points for the Marauders. Stinson hit another triple on the next Marauders possession. A three by Mataseje and a successful jumper by Frankovich brought the Marauders within 10. The Marauders were unable to get closer as they fell 81-70, bringing their record to 7-3-0.
Next up, McMaster will face off against the Queen's Gaels (6-2-0) at home on Saturday at 4 PM.
