McMaster keeps perfect season alive vs Western

LONDON, Ont. — This Friday, the McMaster Marauders (4-0) faced the Western Mustangs (1-3) at Alumni Hall with the hopes to continue their perfect season.

McMaster won the game 94-76.

The first points of the game came off a pass from Cassandra Joli-Courdish (Johnstown, Ont.) to Emily Frankovic (Thornhill, Ont.) setting the Marauders up for a dominant game. Western would challenge McMaster early though with a three pointer but fear not because Amy Stinson (Hamilton, Ont.) came right back to match it with a three of her own. Stinson sunk close range shots as well, following a turn over at centre, she would lay it in to add to the Marauders lead. Delaney Bourget (Sudbury, Ont.) and Sophia Urosevic (Kitchener, Ont.) would also add three pointers to help finish off the first quarter with a lead of 23-21.

The second quarter started with McMaster scoring nine straight points. Western kept the pressure on, but a three from Frankovic would slow the momentum. The Marauders were able to maintain the lead throughout the second quarter and go into halftime ahead 43-38.

In the third quarter, McMaster wasted no time adding to the scoreboard again.  A three pointer from Bourget gave the Marauders a ten point lead. After some strong ball movement around the three point line, Stinson would set her feet and drill another three. Strong rebounding also helped McMaster stay ahead. Frankovic would lay the ball in after two McMaster offensive rebounds to put the Marauders up by 14. The third quarter finished with McMaster up 68-58.

A wide open three from Frankovic would open the fourth quarter, starting a 7-0 run for McMaster. Urosevic added to the lead hitting a three of the inbound from Deanna Mataseje (Ancaster, Ont.). Stinson laid on some moves in the paint, spinning then sinking a shot to keep the margin wide. Soon after, Jordan Denkers (Hamilton, Ont.) made a layup off a stretch, bounce pass from Frankovic. After receiving a pass from inside the paint, Stinson stepped back and gave the Marauders another three points.

Frankovic added another three points for the Marauders near the end of the game to help McMaster secure a 94-76 victory over the Western Mustangs.

Up Next: McMaster will travel to Windsor to take on the Lancers tomorrow, November 9th at 4pm.
