LONDON, Ont. — This Friday, the McMaster Marauders (0-4) looked to add a win to their season, against the Western Mustangs (1-3) at Alumni Hall.
McMaster would lose the game 88-78.
Western went up early in the first quarter, but the Marauders closed the gap with a three from Anthony Warzeszcz (Mississauga, Ont.). Mike Demagus (Scarborough, Ont.) and Tre Edwards (Hamilton, Ont.) both sunk threes to keep McMaster within one at the end of the first quarter.
Elijah Bethune (Toronto, Ont.) hit a three early in the second quarter and Riaz Saliu (Oshawa, Ont.) made two free throws to cut into the ten point deficit. Later, Demagus hustled for a loose ball and layed it in. Warzeszcz fed off that energy with a contested layup and drew the foul to bring the Marauders within three. McMaster then took the lead at the end of the half with a lay up by Moody Qasim (Mississauga, Ont.).
Qasim went on to have a massive third quarter, sinking a hook shot and then back to back threes. Demagus then tied the game at 62 with a floater in the paint, which helped keep McMaster within striking distance.
McMaster came out strong in the final quarter with Brendan Amoyaw (Winnipeg, Man.) slamming the ball down to start the quarter. The offense then got rolling with a step back three from Tyler Garcia (Mississauga, Ont.) and two more threes from Qasim. The three straight threes put McMaster up by one and forced Western to take a timeout. Coming out of the time out Western found their groove to beat the Marauders 88-78.
Up Next: McMaster will travel to Windsor to take on the Lancers tomorrow, November 9th at 6pm.
