Perfect season continues for McMaster women's volleyball

HAMILTON, Ont. — This Friday, the McMaster Marauders (2-0) took on the Nipissing Lakers (0-2) in their home opener.

McMaster won both games 3-0.

McMaster's offense got rolling early thanks to a few direct kills by Sullie Sundara (Kanata, Ont.) A service ace by Jennifer Wu (Burlington, Ont) kept the Marauders ahead by three midway through the set. Later in the set, Olivia Julien (Toronto, Ont.) added a service ace to make it set point and shortly after Chayse Victoria (Oakville, Ont.) came up with a massive block to win the first set 26-24.

Set two began with some strong defense from McMaster. A few strong digs kept the ball in play and the Marauders ended up tying the game at six. Sundara made her presence known with a centre court smash to put the Marauders up by two midway through. Julien recorded back to back service aces which kept the Marauders ahead. Sundara kept the kills coming throughout the second set. Abby Delamere (Toronto, Ont.) would find a hole in the Lakers defense and neatly placed the ball over the net to help close out set two. Delamere followed it up with a service ace to make it set point for McMaster and Victoria finished the set with a tip over the net to win it 25-20.

Sundara again dominated the attack line in the final set and McMaster's defense sealed the victory for them with a massive block to win the final set 25-21

The Marauders maintained their perfect season to win the first meeting with Nipissing 3-0.

McMaster and Nipissing met again on Saturday.

The first set started with a few defensive plays. Both Delamere and Ava Connelly (Ancaster, Ont.) recorded blocks. Madeleine Lutes (Barrie, Ont.) added a service ace to extend McMaster's lead to 10, and the offense would continue to roll with Julien ending the set with two service aces to win 25-13.

The service aces kept coming in set two with Delamere adding two to help McMaster tie the game at seven. Emma McKinnon (Milton, Ont.) got a service ace as well to put the Marauders up by two again mid way through. Delamere also stepped up on defense, along with Lutes to set a block that would tie the set at 22. To finish off the set, McMaster took the last three points, with a pair coming off service aces from Julien. McMaster won set two 26-24.

In the final set, McMaster found themselves up by three early thanks to a kill from Julien and a service ace from Lutes. Victoria extended the lead with a service ace, then back to back kills came from McKinnon and Julien. Julien finished the set off with a service ace to win 25-21 and sweep the Lakers 3-0.
