Marauders grab a win at home this weekend

HAMILTON, Ont. — This Friday, the McMaster Marauders (0-6) faced the Nipissing Lakers (3-2) at Burridge Gym.

Early on, Anthony Warzeszcz (Mississauga, Ont.) tied the game at 10 with back to back threes. AY Osunde (Scarborough, Ont.) followed this play up with a three of his own. The sharp shooting continued with Cashius McNeilly (Scarborough, Ont.) adding two corner threes to make the lead five. Next up, it's Tre Edwards (Hamilton, Ont.) who hit a three to end the first quarter to put McMaster up 24-16.

To start the second quarter, Mike Demagus (Scarborough, Ont.) would drive down the middle through defenders for two. Warzeszcz got an attempt at a three point play later on with a lay up and the foul. Brendan Amoyaw (Winnipeg, Man.) would clean it up with the put back off Warzeszcz's free throw.  McNeilly would get comfortable in the corner again, hitting two three, one off a steal from Demagus. The Marauders would go into half leading 43-31.

To start the second half, a turnover lead to a three from Moody Qasim (Mississauga, Ont.). Coming out of a timeout, Osunde hit a three to stop a Nipissing run. McNeilly would add another three as well to help end the third quarter with McMaster ahead 58-53.

The threes kept coming in the final quarter with McNeilly hitting another few and Osunde hitting one later in the quarter as the shot clock expired. The sharp shooting would help lead McMaster past the Lakers for their first win of the season with a score of 83-76.

On Saturday, McMaster then faced the Laurentian Voyageurs (5-2) at home.

McMaster lost 64-83

The Voyageurs get out to an early lead but after a timeout Tyler Garcia (Mississauga, Ont.) made a layup to get the offense going. Then, Amoyaw followed up shortly after with a three point play, getting the layup plus the foul. The first quarter would end with the Voyageurs leading by 13.

Amoyaw came out strong in the second quarter with hitting jumper and then a dunk. Qasim sunk a three to cut into the Voyageurs lead mid way through, but the Voyageur would hold onto the lead to go into halftime up 49-28.

Warzeszcz hit a three right at the start of the second half and Osunde would finish the quarter with one as well.

Despite some sharp shooting, the Marauders were not able to close the gap late in the game and fell to the Voyageurs 83-64.

Up Next: The Marauders travel to Ottawa to take on the Ottawa Gee-Gees and the Carleton Ravens next week.
