HAMILTON, Ont. — The McMaster Marauders women's and men's wrestling teams participated at the Pat Bolger Open hosted by TMU on Sunday. McMaster was one of 30 teams across Canada performing at the event.
Six Marauder men and five Marauder women competed and earned third place overall, with a score of 48. The women placed in second with 28 points and the men finished with 20 points, good for fifth place.
The Marauders women earned two gold medals and a bronze medal on the day.
Senuki Desanayaka (Brampton, Ont.) won all four of her matches on Sunday, bringing home the gold medal in the 56kg class, which was her second medal of the year.
Megann Nkenglack (Barrie, Ont.) also had a successful day with four wins and a gold medal in the 83-90kg class.
Mayumi King had a strong day. The second-year athlete bounced back after an early defeat and took home the bronze medal. Bringing home, the third women's medal of the day.
The Marauder men finished with two medals on Sunday.
Irman Kang (Caledon, Ont.) enjoyed a successful day that saw him win three of four matches and earn the second-place trophy. Tim Dao (Surrey, B.C) added his first trophy of the season. The third-year Marauder shook off a first match loss and won three straight matches for the bronze medal.
