HAMILTON, Ont. —The McMaster Marauders' women's and men's teams are setting up their final preparations for the OUA Championship in Markham, Ont. over the weekend.
The McMaster women are looking to improve on back-to-back bronze medals they earned at the last two OUA Championships. Head Coach, Meghan Mazer, is excited for the opportunity that her team has in front of them, she says "I'm looking forward to seeing what incredible achievements these players can accomplish on the courts this year. And of course, all eyes are on the hopeful prize: a three-peat medal, maybe this year with an even heavier metal."
The McMaster men are "…most prepared to take on any and all challengers" according to Marauders Head Coach, Mustapha Jamal. Jamal has high confidence in his team, saying that his players play the game "harder" than anyone and that the team will "have something to show for it" at the end of the tournament.
McMaster Women's Key Player
Eva Feddema (Oakville, Ont.): The 5'8 athlete is in her fourth year with the tennis program. Feddema has been a strong member of the team since her rookie season. Coach Magi looks at her as a "cornerstone" piece to the team and with good reason as Feddema has been dominant so far throughout her collegiate career. The Marauders will rely heavily on her in Markham, Ont.
McMaster Men's Key Player
Amaan Khakiani (Pickering, Ont.): Khakiani is in his fourth year with the tennis team. The 6'2 athlete has had a very strong season and is expected to help lead the Marauders to playoff success. According to Coach Jamal, "…(Khakiani) is eager to contribute to the team's success and hopes to bring home some championship hardware."
The Marauders women will take on the Brock Badgers on Friday, Oct 11 as they begin their quest for their first gold medal since 2000.
The McMaster men are looking to add their first medal since the 2022 season. They will take on the York Lions in the first round of the OUA Championships.
