HAMILTON, Ont. - The McMaster tennis teams are headed to the 2022 OUA Championships in Markham, Ontario this weekend and have their eyes set on the podium. The men's team finished last year 3
rd in the province while the women ended just off the podium in 4
th position. Both teams will maintain this ranking headed into the provincial championship.

The Marauders will be joined by six other varsity programs who are vying for the title of OUA Champions - the Brock Badgers, Ottawa Gee-Gees, Toronto Varsity Blues, Waterloo Warriors, Western Mustangs and York Lions. The Varsity Blues won the women's title last year while the Western Mustangs topped the podium on the men's side.
Both maroon and grey teams will face the host York Lions in the opening round. McMaster and York matched-up earlier this season with the Lions securing both victories. The Marauder men fell 6-1 while the women were edged 4-3. Both teams will look to knock York out of medal contention with a win on Friday.
Overall this season, the Marauders men's team is 1-5 while the women are 3-3. With the OUA Championships just hours away and in a win or go home round robin match on Friday, everything will be on the line at Mayfair Club.
2022 OUA Tennis Championships Details
- The Men's and Women's OUA Championship will be a team format, with each match featuring six (6) singles players (plus alternate) and three (3) doubles teams. Players are ranked from 1-6 in singles, and 1-3 in doubles. Teams are not required to use the same players from match to match.
- Teams will be seeded based previous year's OUA championship results.
- Each singles match will be played the best 2 of 3 sets with no-ad scoring, with a 12 point tiebreaker at 6-6.
- Each doubles match will be 8 game pro sets with regular ad-scoring with a 12 point tiebreaker at 7-7.
- Each team match will be worth up to 7 points, with the winner being the first team to achieve 4 points.

The schedules for Saturday and Sunday will be determined after Friday's matches are completed.
