Box Score Opening the new year with a bang, the McMaster Marauders men's basketball team hosted the York Lions, and blanked them 93-77.
Â
Mike Demagus led both teams in scoring with 27 points, while serving four assists, and clinching eight rebounds. The pair of
Daniel Graham and
Nathan Charles both posted 17 points. Charles also held double figures on the rebounds stats with ten. It was fellow teammate
Elijah Bethune who led for all with 15 grabs off the boards.Â
Â
Despite the first quarter pulling a lead for the home team, going 23-14 Marauders, the Lions didn't fold. Bringing feisty play into second brought roars from the crowd on questionable calls. In the second, the Lions posted 26-25, and the first half read 48-40 in favour of the Marauders. With outdoing them on the score board, the Marauders cinched higher field goal, 3-points, and free throw percentages in both periods.
Â
The visitors rolled out of the locker room and outscored the Marauders by one point the third quarter. While the Lions were gaining traction, the Marauders didn't let them have a lead since the first quarter. Pulling away from the balanced act, the Marauders found their footing in the third, with 10 field goals and three three-pointers.Â
Â
The teams saw a tie halfway through the final quarter, but a three from Demagus guarded that. With two technical being dished in the same play late in the fourth, both teams were playing for the game and pride. The Marauders continued what they started and didn't lose sight. Stretching the lead to 14 with a minute remaining, the Maroon took home their first game of the new year.
