ST. CATHARINES, Ont - The McMaster Marauders suffered a 1-0 loss to the Brock Badgers tonight in a hard-fought, physical game.
The first half saw McMaster dominate in possession, holding the ball well in the midfield and defensive third. Both teams created some great opportunities off of well-placed passes inside, leading to a halftime total of 5 shots by McMaster and 4 by Brock.
The Badgers stepped up their game in the second half, forcing the Marauders to take more of a defensive stance. Brock kept the forward pressure on and the Marauders struggled to keep hold of the ball. Eventually, an unlucky defensive deflection placed the ball right into the stride of forward Luca Danesi, who buried it into the back of the net in the 74th minute. As frustrations built up and the Marauders fought to equalise, the end of the game saw multiple hard fouls and yellow cards from both sides.
Though they were unable to find connections in the final third, the Marauders showed some impressive defensive passing and incisive balls forward. Goalie Ethan Cagalj recorded two saves and intercepted some dangerous crosses into the box.
