LONDON, Ont. - The McMaster Marauders men's basketball team was absolutely dominant on the boards on Wednesday night, securing its first road win of the new year with an 88-82 victory over the Western Mustangs.
Third-year guard
Mike Demagus led the Marauders once again, netting 25 points while
Khalil Miller and
AY Osunde combined for an added 21. He added eight boards and two assists.
After being up by as much as 29 points in the second quarter, the Marauders saw their lead challenged in the final minutes of the game. Western shot 57.9% from the field in the final quarter, making the spread just nine with over two minutes remaining. McMaster kept its cool, converting three free throws in the dying seconds of the game to secure the victory.
The Marauders were on fire to start the game, scoring 30 points in the first quarter, and found themselves leading 52-25 at halftime.
Western had a big second half but McMaster kept itself in the game by dominating the boards, 57-34 throughout the contest, and converting 29 second-chance points.
For the Mustangs, Jerric Palma scored 25 points.
