On Wednesday night, the McMaster Marauders rematched and fell to the TMU Bold, 71-68.
The last time the two teams faced off, the Bold got away from the Marauders, being the Marauders' only loss of the season.
Cassie Joli-Coeur led the Marauders with 12 points, while four others also found double digits - Delaney Bourget and Emily Frankovic with 11, where Jenna Button and Jordan Denkers had a respective 10.
Pushing the lead to as large as 10 in the second quarter, the Bold brought tough competition into Burridge. Button found two fouls early in the game, leading to protective measures and fewer game time minutes for the senior. In Button's absence, Denkers upped the defence. Collectively in the first two quarters, the Marauders grabbed 20 rebounds. In a game that was up for grabs for either team, the Bold came out of the first half on top, 32-28.
Despite the squad's unlikely first-half shooting, the Marauders dug deep for a strong third quarter. Outscoring the Bold 21-19, they cut down the lead. With six minutes remaining in the quarter, a three from Button brought the home team back on top. With the exchanging leads back and forth, most of the third was always within a possession or two.
Unhappy with the back and forth, when the game found a 53-53 tie the Marauders went on a run. Bourget drilled two back-to-back threes, sandwiched with an Ashley Guerriero steal and a Stinson jumper. However as the quarter's clock winded down, the Bold found themselves at the line shooting three. Sinking all, the bold took a three-point lead with under a minute to go.
With 8 seconds left in the game, Frankovic found a steal and ran it up. But it wasn't a match for the full Bold's line in the key, the Marauders were forced and outdone. The Bold got away with the game 71-68.
