MARAUDERS DROP LANCERS, 70-59

The third-quarter surge helped the McMaster Marauders drop the Windsor Lancers, 70-59.

Many Marauders decorated the stats sheets pitching in to this collaborative win. Sophia Urosevic hit 11 points and five rebounds off the bench, alongside freshman Emily Frankovic a pair of two blocks and steals, with seven points. Jenna Button was sharp on defence, grabbing four steals, two blocks and downing 11 points.

The game found a good pace to start, with both teams returning shots. With low to middle 30th percentile shooting percentages, both squads hit 16 to end the quarter on a tie.

Before the end of the quarter, Windsor had a chance to take the lead as they went up against the shot clock winding down, however, the 3-pointer did not land.

In the second quarter, the Marauders' transition basketball was strong, despite being outscored they outshot the Lancers, and were able to grab 10 rebounds. With just 24 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Deanna Mataseje pocket-picked and Amy Stinson dropped the shoulder to land the lay, for McMaster's last play of the quarter. Going into the half, Windsor led 33 to 28.

The third quarter was a huge turning quarter for the Marauders, who not only came back from the deficit but found seven-point leads twice, with the help of a 3rd minute 6-0 run. Their defence and their bench propelled the team. With five minutes remaining in the third, the Marauders were closing in on Windsor's lead. Frankovic found a steal, which sent Button on the breakaway. That layup brought the game to just a one-point difference. Under a minute later, Urosevic hit back-to-back threes giving the Marauders the lead.

In the final quarter, Mac kept dominating and growing their lead, forcing the Lancers to take a timeout. Returning from the break, Urosevic, who had a no-point first half, received a ball off a Frankovic steal and found a traditional 3-point play, earning the squad their largest lead of the game with 15 points.  The narrative remained similar through the next 4 minutes as McMaster dribbled out the game 70-59.
