The McMaster Marauders Women's basketball team stun the Western Mustangs 84-73.
Jenna Button pulled out a seasons and career high with 29 points, and serving four assists. Deanna Mataseje matched her career high of 9 assists while gabbing 5 steals. Amy Stinson had a well rounded stats line, scoring 19 for the Marauders while playing the boards with 7 rebounds and 3 blocks.
The Marauders were struggling to finish in the first, going 28.6% from the field and 20% from the arch. Despite the lack of scoring luck, the team kept up with the Mustangs. While holding the lead within reach, the Marauders remained under the Mustangs until the second quarter. Freshman Ashley Guerriero played a big lead in the second, coming off the bench, and making key plays. In her 8 minutes of play, she hit 5 points for the Marauders. From shooting to passing, Mac leveled up and started gaining momentum. Increasing their percentage from the paint up to 66.7%, and 37.5% on threes.Â
The third quarter saw an energy and surge that this squad is known for. Outscoring the Mustangs 25-16, the Marauders came back and were back in the game. Wrapping the quarter on top 69-62. The fourth found the women in maroon continuing to drown out their opponents, outscoring from the field, threes, and the line. Taking the game to the largest lead of 14-points in the fourth, McMaster closed out the game 84-73.
As a team, McMaster outrebounded the Mustangs 42-39.
For the game, the Marauders outscored the Mustangs 36-32 in the paint and got eight blocks to the Mustangs' zero.
