HAMILTON, Ont. - The McMaster Marauders men's basketball team looked to upset the #5 Brock Badgers in a rare Wednesday night contest in St. Catharines and earn a big win in the process.
Despite competing hard and putting up 20 points in the final frame, the Marauders fell just short of the win, as the Badgers escaped with a 76-69 victory.
The Marauders held an early 10-8 lead at the midpoint of the first quarter but trailed 20-16 after the opening 10 minutes of play.
McMaster and Brock played an evenly-matched second quarter as both the Marauders and Badgers posted 15 points. At the halftime break, Brock held a slight 35-31 advantage.
The Marauders shot just 29% from the field in the third which allowed the Badgers to extend their lead to nine after 30 minutes. With the game within striking distance for the Marauders, the two teams headed into the final frame.
Despite McMaster having its second best shooting quarter of the night, the Marauders were unable to draw even and the Badgers escaped with the win.
Three Marauders hit double digits in points led by
Mike Demagus (Scarborough, Ont.) with 26.
Khalil Miller (Scarborough, Ont.) scored 14 while
Cashius McNeilly (Scarborough, Ont.) had 10. Miller recorded 15 rebounds in the contest to secure McMaster's lone double-double.
