McMaster win vacated after self-reporting academic eligibility violation

HAMILTON, Ont. - McMaster has found that a student-athlete on the men's basketball team became ineligible for competition due to a brief course load violation of U SPORTS Policy 40.10.3.2. McMaster officials notified U SPORTS upon discovery of the violation.

The student-athlete competed in two OUA contests during the period in question and as a result, the team will forfeit its game against Algoma University that took place on January 21st.

The student-athlete's eligibility has since been reinstated after complying with all academic standing requirements. We are maintaining the confidentiality of the individual as we would do in any circumstance involving a student.

All statistics from the contest will stand, however the score will be considered a 20-0 Algoma win.

Recap
The Marauders jumped out of the gate with 35 points in the first quarter and took a 21-point lead into the second quarter. The team never looked back, outscoring the Thunderbirds by nine points in the third quarter and 14 points in the fourth quarter on their way to their first 100+ point game of the season.

Five McMaster players scored in double digits in the win, led by Mychael Paulo (Brampton, Ont.) and his 14 points. Khalil Miller (Scarborough, Ont.) finished the game with 12 points and 15 rebounds for the game's only double-double while AY Osunde (Scarborough, Ont.), Sefa Otchere (Niagara Falls, Ont.) and Tristan Lindo (Ajax, Ont.) combined for 31 points in the win.
