HAMILTON, Ont. - The McMaster men's basketball team faced the Laurier Golden Hawks, a team with the same record, on Friday night in Burridge Gymnasium. The Marauders looked to earn a big win in front of a home crowd and did just that.
The game came down to the final minutes, with
Sefa Otchere (Niagara Falls, Ont.) securing the go-ahead basket for the home squad with just 1:04 remaining, en route to a 77-72 victory.
McMaster put up 26 points in the first quarter and led 41-29 at halftime. Laurier battled back in the third, outscoring the Marauders by 12 points but the maroon and grey battled hard in the fourth to secure the win.
Mike Demagus (Scarborough, Ont.) led McMaster with a team-high 22 points. He also tallied four rebounds, four assists, one block and a steal.
Two other Marauders' scored in double digits with
AY Osunde (Scarborough, Ont.) recording 15 points and
Tristan Lindo (Ajax, Ont.) adding 10 points in the win.
Ares Culley-Bremner (Hannon, Ont.) was the top rebounder for the home squad, totaling 12 on the night.
McMaster finished the game shooting 41 percent from the floor and 38 percent from three-point range. The Golden Hawks shot 37 percent from the field and 30 percent from beyond the arc.
With the win, the Marauders' record improves to 10-6.
