HAMILTON, Ont. - The McMaster Marauders have hit their stride, winning five straight games to close out 2022 and open 2023. This week, the maroon and grey will look to extend that streak once again, but will face some tough competition in a mid-week road contest with the #5 nationally-ranked Brock Badgers. The Marauders will then return home for a match-up with the Algoma Thunderbirds on Saturday night. Both games tip-off at 8pm.

Algoma vs McMaster
Burridge Gymnasium | Hamilton, Ont.
January 21st, 2023Â @ 8pm
The Marauders and Badgers have already battled it out on the court once this season. McMaster outscored Brock in the final frame but it was too little too late as the first half proved to be the difference for the Badgers who took the game by a final score of 75-67. This week, the Marauders will look to even the score.Â
Sefa Otchere (Niagara Falls, Ont.) andÂ
AY Osunde (Scarborough, Ont.) each totaled a team high 13 points while veteransÂ
Mike Demagus andÂ
Mychael Paulo (Brampton, Ont.) added another 11 each.
Khalil Miller (Scarborough, Ont.) continued his defensive dominance with 11 rebounds. The two squads met three times last season, with Brock stealing the victory in two of those contests at home, including an OUA semi-final contest. At this point in the 2022-23 campaign, Brock sits in second place in the OUA Central division, just one win behind the current leaders -Â the Toronto Varsity Blues. The Badgers are coming off two back-to-back wins against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks (69-65) and the Algoma Thunderbirds (92-83) and will look to make it three straight on Wednesday night.
Algoma has had a tough go in the 2022-23 OUA Campaign thus far, earning just one win throughout fourteen games played. Despite their record, the Thunderbirds have a solid offence, recording 70+ points in five games this season. McMaster and Algoma don't have a lengthy history but the two squads matched-up twice last season on November 19, 2021 and November 20, 2021 in Sault Ste. Marie. In the first game, the McMaster Marauders cruised to a 96 -78 victory over the Algoma Thunderbirds.Â
Jordan Henry led all scorers with 25 points, six assists, three steals and three rebounds. Keeping pace with Henry, Mike Demangus put up 17 of his own, whileÂ
Tristan Lindo knocked down 11. The next night, McMaster continued its dominance, dropping the Thunderbirds 81-38. The Marauders held the lead for 100% of the game - from the first three from Otchere to the last bucket fromÂ
Tristan Lindo. The 43-point margin of victory was the most the team had seen over the season. The Thunderbirds are coming off two losses to Queen's and Brock but, there were some positives. Algoma lost to Brock by just 9-points, their best showing this season and will look to build on that momentum on Saturday.
The McMaster Marauders are firing on all cylinders right now and will look to continue to build on their 8-5 record. With three of the maroon and grey's losses coming in the first two weeks of the OUA season, the Marauders are picking up speed and will look to move ahead of both the TMU Bold and Lakehead Thunderwolves in the OUA standings.
