Strong first half propels Marauders to victory

HAMILTON, Ont. - The McMaster Marauders men's basketball team faced its second northern opponent is just two days.

Picking up a win just 24 hours ago in the 2023 debut, the Marauders looked to make their win streak five. McMaster did just that, dropping the Voyageurs 83-77.

Shooting 43.6% from the field, the Marauders scored 50 points in the first half on way to an 87-73 win.

The Marauders separated themselves early in the first quarter, posting a massive 26 points while holding the Lakers to just 11.

McMaster continued the momentum in the second, shooting 50% from the field while going 5-of-11 from three-point range to make the advantage 50-21 in favour of the hosts after 20 minutes of play.

The Nipissing Lakers battled back in the third quarter, outscoring the Marauders 22-15 but it was the maroon and grey that continued to lead at the halftime break - 65-43.

Both teams battled in the fourth, but it was McMaster who closed out the game with a 14-point lead, as the home squad cruised to victory.

Mike Demagus (Scarborough, Ont.) had a big game, posting a team high 16 points. Cashius McNeilly (Scarborough, Ont.) had 15, Khalil Miller (Scarborough, Ont.) recorded 14 and Mychael Paulo (Brampton, Ont.) added 12 in the win.
