HAMILTON, Ont. - In the second weekend back on the court, the McMaster Marauders men's basketball team hosted the Laurentian Voyageurs for a Friday night contest.
Â
Picking up a win a week ago in the 2023 debut, the Marauders looked to extend their record and move up in the OUA Central standings. McMaster did just that, dropping the Voyageurs 83-77.
Â
With the post-season just a month away, both teams started the game with some intensity. After the opening 10 minutes of play, the Marauders led Laurentian 24-20.
Â
The Marauders opened the scoring in the second frame but, much like the first quarter, the teams continued to trade baskets. McMaster held the lead for eight minutes but the Voyageurs evened the score, deadlocking the score at 35-35 headed into the break.
Â
In the third quarter, Laurentian found some offense, scoring 23 points but McMaster put up 25 to take a narrow lead into the fourth.
Â
The Marauders continued to drive the basket in the closing frame which proved to be the difference for McMaster who took the game by a final score of 83-77.
Â
Mychael Paulo (Brampton, Ont.) posted a team high 19 points while
Mike Demagus (Scarborough, Ont.) and first-year Marauder,
Cashius McNeilly (Scarborough, Ont.) combined for 30 points in the victory.
