Sunday September 11 - Hamilton, Ont.
On Sunday, McMaster bounced back in a big way. The Marauders and Gryphons came out swinging, trying to take control of the game early. The two teams combined for 18 shots in the opening 45 minutes of play but both defences and goalkeepers kept the game tied at zero.
Coming out of the halftime break, the Gryphons dominated possession but the Marauders maintained their composure and focused on the task at hand - to get the first win of the season and prove they are a threat to any team. McMaster did just that. In the 82nd minute,
Emilie Calabrese (Ancaster, Ont.) stepped up to the corner flag to put one in the box for the Marauders, knowing that time was running out. Instead of setting up a teammate, Calabrese put the ball right into the back of the net herself, giving the Marauders their first win of the season.
Offensively, Calabrese and
Megan Mamela (Brantford, Ont.) accounted for 80% of McMaster's shots on goal.
Alexandra Mudie (Burlington, Ont.) finished the game with an amazing 12 saves and the shutout to earn the win.
The Marauders move to 1-2-1 on the season while the Gryphons hold a 2-1 record.Â
