Box Score The McMaster Marauders men's basketball team stunned the No.10 Western Mustangs, 78-77, on Saturday evening at Burridge Gym.
After the upset of Thursday's game, where the Marauders suffered a defeat in London, the Maroon did not allow the Mustangs a win on their court.
Jordan Henry, with 25 points, led all scorers in the game, while dishing out seven assists and snatching three steals. Third-year forward Mike Demagus put up strong numbers with 22 points, nine rebounds and a steal.
40 seconds into the game, the Marauders picked up the lead when Demagus made a layup, from Christian Bentley's assist. The Mustangs' Jerric Palma responded with a three-pointer to give Western the lead, which they held for the remainder of the first quarter. The first quarter wrapped with a score of 23-16.
The men in Maroon played a hard second quarter - leading the quarter to a standstill with both teams putting up 22-points. The squad held a 50% shooting average from field goal range, but Western's Aryna Sharma snuck in a dunk followed by a three, which set the Marauders off.
In the third, the home team gained some ground putting up 14 points while keeping the Mustangs to 12. Multiple times in the quarter the Marauders brought the game back to a one point difference.
The fourth quarter, however, was where the switch flipped. With seven lead changes, the Marauders locked away 26 points, going 12-for-21 from field goal range. Both Demagus and Henry put up eight points a piece, with Nick Fambegbe hitting six.
In the last 0:04 seconds of the game, the Marauders lit up Burridge, capitalizing off of Western's two missed free throws. Henry rebounded, sent the ball to Mychael Paulo, who lobbed it to Demagus for the game winning bucket.Â
With a record of 6-2, the Marauders now sit in sole position of second-place in the OUA West Division, while the Mustangs drop to 5-3 and third. The Marauders will look ahead to next week as they take on the undefeated Division leading Brock Badgers on the road on Wednesday at 8pm.
