Ravens outlast Marauders and pick up Saturday win

OTTAWA, Ont. - The McMaster Marauders men's basketball team faced a tough team in the first weekend of OUA basketball action on Saturday night.

Despite leading for two and a half quarters, McMaster came up short, losing 82-68 to the Carleton Ravens in an all-out battle.

The Marauders were lights out in the first quarter, shooting 58.8% from the field, putting up an impressive 26 points to lead 26-13 after ten minutes.

Looking to cut the lead, the Ravens put up 24 points in the second but it was the Marauders who continued to hold the advantage at halftime - 43-37.

With the game within reach for both squads, the Ravens and Marauders exchanged baskets throughout the third but the visitors maintained a one point lead headed into the final frame.

After playing three impressive quarters of basketball, McMaster was unable to keep pace with Carleton in the fourth. The Ravens caught fire late, outscoring the Marauders 26-5 in the final 10 minutes of play to steal the game from the visitors, securing an 82-68 victory. McMaster finished the game with 31 rebounds, 5 assists and 15 points off turnovers.

Mychael Paulo (Brampton, Ont.) and Mike Demagus (Scarborough, Ont.) had big games, scoring a combined 42 points, leading the way for the Marauders. In all, three players scored in double digits for McMaster.
