THUNDER BAY, Ont. - In the rematch with the Lakehead Thunderwolves, the McMaster Marauders were unable to repeat Friday's success, falling to the hosts 107-85 on Saturday night.
Both teams knocked down shots early in the contest, combining for 26 made baskets in the opening quarter. The Marauders and Thunderwolves shot well over their season averages from the field to start the game, recording 66.7% and 57.1%, respectively. After ten minutes of play, the Marauders led 27-21.
The offence was well on display in the second stanza but McMaster struggled to contain Lakehead on defence. The Thunderwolves put up a season high 37 points in the second quarter to hold a 58-53 advantage at the halftime break.
In the third quarter, the Marauders struggled to score from outside the arc and at the line, recording just 13 points to the Thunderwolves' 21.
Down 13 headed into the final frame, McMaster had a difficult quarter and was unable to threaten the Lakehead lead. The Thunderwolves secured the victory in convincing fashion - 107-85.
Rookie guard, Tyler Garcia (Mississauga, Ont.), led the Marauders with 18 points while adding four rebounds.
AY Osunde (Scarborough, Ont.) came off the bench for 16 points while
Mychael Paulo (Brampton, Ont.) and Khalil Miller (Scarborough, Ont.) finished the game with a combined 28 points. The Thunderwolves were led by Michael Okafor who recorded 24 points, eight rebounds and five assists on the night.
The Marauders shot 48.5% from the field and tallied 25 rebounds.

McMaster will now prepare for a mid-week contest with the Guelph Gryphons on Wednesday night before closing out 2022 at York on Saturday. Game time is set for 8pm both days.
