Marauders power past Badgers to pick up second straight win

HAMILTON, Ont. - In the fourth home game of the season, the Marauders looked to build on their momentum and pick up another win, this time against the Brock Badgers, after dropping the reigning national champions on Friday night.

After knocking down eight 3-pointers in the opening quarter, the Marauders never trailed in the contest and grabbed a 66-53 victory over the Badgers, securing the weekend sweep in the process.

The Marauders went five for six from outside the arc to take a quick 15-3 lead to open the game. McMaster continued to find the basket, holding a substantial 30-9 lead after the first quarter.

The second stanza looked a lot different for the home squad who only managed 26.3% from the field. Brock put up 19 points but it was the Marauders who maintained the advantage at the halftime break - 43-28.

Both teams struggled to score in the third quarter but the Marauders maintained an advantage after 30 minutes of play - 57-38.

Brock decreased the deficit in the final quarter, but the Marauders never relinquished their lead, taking the game by a 66-53 final.

McMaster extends its win streak to two and sits at 3-3 in the OUA standings.

Sarah Gates (Newmarket, Ont.) led the way for the Marauders with 13 points, ten rebounds and two steals, recording her second straight double-double in the process. Mia Spadafora (Hannon, Ont.) and Cassie Joli-Coeur (Johnstown, Ont.) were the other Marauders to finish the night in double-digits with 12 and 10, respectively.
