Marauders set for clash with Bold and Badgers

HAMILTON, Ont. - Just four games into the season, the Marauders have already faced three of the four undefeated teams from across the province in the Carleton Ravens, Ottawa Gee-Gees and Queen's Gaels and will now look to add to the win column this weekend against familiar foes. McMaster will face the 1-2 TMU Bold on Friday night at 8pm in Burridge Gymnasium before tipping off with the Brock Badgers, who sit at 3-1 in the OUA standings, in the annual rivalry contest at 8pm on Saturday. Saturday's game also marks the 'Night of Champions' event as McMaster honours its fall sport teams and student-athletes who excelled on the field of play.

McMaster and TMU did not match-up during 2021-22 with the last meeting between the two taking place on January 29, 2020. The Marauders traveled to Toronto for a contest that saw 211 combined points scored. Despite falling to the hosts by a 116-95 scoreline, the maroon and grey had a memorable night on the court with Jordan Henry breaking the single-game scoring record with a total of 46 points. The Bold opened the 2022-23 season with two tight losses to the Toronto Varsity Blues, including a 97-90 overtime loss at U of T's gymnasium. TMU lost both games by a combined eight points before dismantling the Waterloo Warriors 97-48 last weekend. The Bold will look to improve their season standing this weekend and pick up a win in Hamilton, Ont.

The Marauders and Badgers met three times last season, with Brock stealing the victory in two of those contests at home, including an OUA semi-final contest. The McMaster squad secured a victory on home court in Burridge Gymnasium on February 19, 2022 and will look to continue the home court advantage on Saturday. With the 2022-23 OUA season still young, the Badgers sit at 3-1 after dropping the Toronto Varsity Blues, the Laurier Golden Hawks and the Lakehead Thunderwolves. The only mark on the season comes from a 92-90 OT loss in the first match-up between the Badgers and Thunderwolves. The Marauders and Badgers have a .500 record against one another over the past ten games so each will look to gain the edge this weekend.

McMaster has not had the easiest start to the season facing the likes of the Gee-Gees and Ravens in the first two games of the 2022-23 campaign but picked up a big win over the York Lions in the Marauders' home opener last Friday night. Although McMaster currently sits at 1-3 in the OUA Central standings, the Marauders have shown that they are a team that can contend with the best in the province and will look to showcase that skill this weekend.

Last Time Out

Khalil Miller (Scarborough, Ont.), a newcomer to the Marauders, had himself a weekend and solidified himself as a defensive force in the OUA.

A veteran forward, Miller provided a spark off the bench with 17 points, 19 rebounds and six blocks in 29 minutes of action in Friday night's win against the visiting York Lions.

On Sunday afternoon, the six-foot-eight forward from Scarborough continued his defensive dominance and now leads the OUA in blocked shots (14) after adding six more, while moving into fourth in the conference in total rebounds (38) with six on the night. He also scored in double digits for the second straight night, contributing 11 points to the Marauders' total.
