Men's basketball falls to Queen's, 79-65

HAMILTON, Ont. - The McMaster Marauders men's basketball team suffered a 79-65 setback at the hands of the Queen's Gaels on Sunday.

McMaster came out of the gates strong and led by one after the first quarter. But the maroon and grey couldn't seem to find any momentum after that against a Gaels side that held them to just 22 percent from beyond-the-arc (5-of-22), and shot 44 percent from the field. Queen's would go on to take a seven point edge into halftime before extending its lead to as many as 25 points.

The Marauder bench outscored Queen's 36-20 and provided some welcomed reinforcement on a rare down night for the team's starting five, as Khalil Miller and Tyler Garcia each had 11 points in the game. Miller, a six-foot-eight forward from Scarborough, continued his defensive dominance and now leads the OUA in blocked shots (14) after adding six more, while moving into second in the conference in total rebounds (30) with six on the night.

A chance to get back in the win column will need to go through TMU as the Marauders host the newly renamed Bold next Friday. The second night of a back-to-back will see two longtime competitors go toe-to-toe as McMaster squares off with the reigning OUA champion Brock Badgers to close out a four-game home stand.
