#1-ranked Lions end Marauders' win streak

HAMILTON, Ont. - After finding lots of momentum over the past few weeks, the Marauders looked to secure their fifth consecutive win of the season against some tough competition, the No. 1 team in the country - the York Lions.

In a game that favoured the top-ranked visitors, the Lions defeated the Marauders 3-0.

York controlled the game from the start, putting five shots on net in the opening 15 minutes of play. The Lions got on the board first, finding the back of the net in the 24th minute. Less than 20 minutes later, the visitors doubled their lead to take a 2-0 lead into the halftime break. York recorded 18 shots in the first half while the Marauders managed just one.

McMaster came out of the break ready to battle but the Lions secured the win in the 53rd minute to make the score 3-0 which would stand as final. Amir Shirazi (Oakville, Ont.) was assessed his second yellow card of the match a few minutes later, dropping the Marauders to ten men. Despite being down a player, the contest was quite even in the second half with McMaster and York each recording five shots in the second 45.

York outshot McMaster 23-6 throughout the contest. Miles Green (Toronto, Ont.), Sachin Sargeant (Lynden, Ont.) and Xavier Thomas (Whitby, Ont.) were the three Marauders to have an attempt at goal. Ethan Cagalj (Stoney Creek, Ont.) made thirteen saves for the Marauders.

The maroon and grey move to 5-3-1 on the season while the Lions remain unbeaten with an 8-0-1 record.
