Marauders secure 3-points against Brock

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The McMaster Marauders women's soccer has drawn their last three games and looked to change the narrative during this weekend's contest with the Brock Badgers.

The Marauders secured the three points in St. Catharines on Friday night and picked up the second win of the 2022 campaign.

After a pretty even opening half hour of play, the Marauders were awarded a free kick about 25 yards out in the 36th minute. Tiam Pourbakhtiari (Richmond Hill, Ont.) stepped up to take the kick and made no mistake. The fourth-year life sciences student perfectly curved the ball into the top corner of the Brock Badgers' net to give the maroon and grey a 1-0 lead. It was Pourbakhtiari's first goal of the season and also her first as a Marauder. The lead stood as the teams entered the halftime break.

The home team came out of the gates firing, looking for the tying goal in the second half. Despite controlling the possession and outshooting the Marauders in the second half, McMaster held off the Badgers to secure the 1-0 victory, collecting the three points in the process.

Brock recorded 20 shots to McMaster's 13. Eight different Marauders had attempts at goal throughout the 90 minute contest. Alexandra Mudie (Burlington, Ont.) turned away nine shots to earn the shutout. Mudie has a .883 save percentage, second best in the OUA.

The Marauders improve to 2-2-4 in the standings while the Badgers now sit at 4-4.
