ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - With three wins in the last three games, the McMaster Marauders looked to extend their win streak to four on Friday night versus the Brock Badgers.
In a competitive contest, the Marauders edged the Badgers 1-0 for their fourth consecutive victory.
With the season winding down, McMaster knows that each game is valuable in the push for the post-season. On Friday night, the Marauders and Badgers spent most of the first half finding their stride, meaning much of the opening 45 minutes was spent in the middle third of the field. The two teams combined for just seven shots before the break.
In the second half, it was the Marauders who broke through.
Ed Bryan Florent (Orleans, Ont.) found the back of the net for McMaster in the 57th minute of play, recording his fourth goal of the season. Attacking from the left side of the field, the fourth-year communication studies & linguistics student found the far corner of the net, beating the Badgers' goalkeeper in the process.
Amir Shirazi (Oakville, Ont.) picked up the assist. The 1-0 score remained at the final whistle, securing the win and full three points for McMaster.
Friday night's contest was centred on possession with only fourteen combined attempts at net from both sides.Â
Ethan Cagalj (Stoney Creek, Ont.) made four saves for the Marauders and picked up the shutout.
The Marauders improve to 5-2-1, moving the maroon and grey to third in the OUA West, while the Badgers fall to 4-1-3.
