PREVIEW: WOMEN'S SOCCER HOSTS THUNDERBIRDS AS SOCCER RETURNS TO RON JOYCE

Regular season soccer returns this Saturday as the McMaster Marauders women's soccer team kicks off their season at home with back-to-back games against the Algoma Thunderbirds.

Just under two years has passed since the Marauders posted a 7-5-2 regular season record in 2019 to finish fifth in the OUA West Division. The squad went on to upset the fifth-seeded Brock Badgers 1-0 on the road in the first-round of the OUA playoffs thanks to a Lindsay Bosveld goal, but fell to the Western Mustangs in the quarterfinals 1-0.

During the regular season, Megan Mamela tied for sixth in the OUA in game-winning goals with two alongside graduated Marauder Ally Riganelli, while former starting goal keeper Juliana Hifawi ranked seventh in the province in goals against average with .750.

A new Head Coach now oversees the team on the sidelines as Miranda Wiley enters her first season on the pitch after a year of hiatus due to the pandemic. Arriving with a wealth of coaching experience, and a roster with 18 athletes in their first-year of eligibility, the future starts now for Wiley's squad, and the Algoma Thunderbirds are their first test.
