ATHLETICS & RECREATION ANNOUNCES UPDATES TO SERVICES, PROGRAMMING EFFECTIVE DECEMBER 15TH

Following McMaster University's announcement regarding the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in Ontario, the Department of Athletics & Recreation is making the following changes to its programming and facility status effective immediately:

Updates to service
The following service updates will be in effect:
  • Athletics & Recreation programming beyond Sunday, December 19th will be cancelled until further notice
    • The David Braley Athletic Centre will operate under modified hours until this closure
      • Starting Thursday December 16th, we will be reducing building operational hours to 7am to 7pm for both Thursday and Friday.
      • Weekend hours will stay at exam schedule of 8:30-5pm
  • The last day for ALL drop-in activities is Thursday December 16th
  • Recreational Club activities beyond Sunday, December 19th are cancelled until further notice
    • Remaining hours this week may be modified based on facility hours
    • External user group activities will be cancelled beyond Sunday, December 19th
  • The Pulse Fitness Centre will be closed as of Monday, December 20th
  • The McMaster Athletics & Recreation business office will remain open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm until Thursday, December 23rd.
  • Outdoor spaces will remain open for member use (weather permitting)
  • The David Braley Sport Medicine & Rehabilitation Centre will continue to operate within their current hours:
    • Monday – Thursday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
    • Friday – 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
    • Will be closed from Friday, December 24th, 2021 through Monday, January 3rd, 2022 for the holidays
  • Exceptions will be made for structured varsity activities and elite athlete training
  • All personal items MUST be cleared out of lockers by Sunday, December 19th
The David Braley Athletic Centre was scheduled to close for the holiday break from Dec. 24th, 2021 to January 3rd, 2022. This closure will now be extended, and all Athletics & Recreation facilities will now be closed from Monday, December 20th, 2021 until at least Monday, January 17th, 2022.

The following health and safety protocols remain in place for all Department of Athletics & Recreation facilities and programming:
  • If you feel unwell, have symptoms consistent with COVID-19, or have been identified as a close contact of a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19, stay home and seek further guidance from Public Health officials.
  • Remain physically distanced from others when possible.
  • All members are required to be fully vaccinated and must show MacCheck, proof of vaccination and valid photo ID upon entry.
    • Exception only for those with ALL three of the following:
      • Approved exemption from McMaster University
      • Signed note from physician
      • Negative COVID-19 test
  • Masks that securely cover the nose and mouth are required to be worn at all times in A&R facilities. Masks must be worn while moving around (i.e., moving from treadmill to free weights) or while waiting to enter an activity space (i.e., waiting for squash court). Wearing masks while participating in activity is encouraged but optional.
  • Sanitize equipment you've used using the towels and sanitizer provided.
