The McMaster Marauders women's volleyball team won their match against the Lakehead Thunderwolves 3-2 on Saturday night for their second win against them in a row.
Â
The Marauders travelled all the way to Thunder Bay for the weekend series that opened their regular season.
Â
Friday night action was repeated, as McMaster swept Lakehead in three straight sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-19).
Â
McMaster dominated on offence, with 88 total attacks and 35 kills over three sets, compared to Lakehead's 19.
Â
Once again,
Emma McKinnon led McMaster on the attack with 12 kills, followed by
Jessie Nairn with nine and
Sullie Sundara with eight.
Â
The Marauders offence was supported by
Sarah Lagler-Clark who made 23 assists for her team.
Â
Tied with six blocks each, strong defence on both sides made for close games, but ultimately McMaster's resistance held stronger.
Â
With a total 39 digs, the Marauders worked tirelessly to not let the ball hit the floor, especially
Hayley Brookes who led McMaster with 14 digs.
Â
Ellie Hatashita was also a defensive wall for McMaster, putting up four of her team's six blocks.
Â
Now 2-0 in the season, the Marauders look to take on the Brock Badgers in St. Catharines on Nov. 19 and again at home on Nov. 21.
