ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The McMaster Marauders women's volleyball team fell 3-1 to the Brock Badgers on Friday night at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
Â
After dropping the first set against Brock 19-25, McMaster came back strong in the second, taking a quick 5-0 lead.
Â
The Marauders defence continuously shut down the Badgers block after block, forcing their opponents to call a time-out.
Â
Ana Strbac,
Ellie Hatashita, and
Sullie Sundara frequently got hands on Brock's attacks, racking up 17 blocks between the three of them.
Â
McMaster took the second set 27-25, tying Brock at one, and looked to keep that momentum going in the third.
Â
Holding the lead for most of the next set, the Marauders pushed it past 25, but fell to the Badgers 26-28.
Â
McMaster's steady pressure on Brock was helped with dominance on the attack line from Sundara and
Jessie Nairn on the outside. Each of the hitters earned 16 kills for their team.
Â
Trailing 2-1 going into the fourth set, the Marauders continued hustling and kept the game within a few points.
Â
Unfortunately, the Badgers came out on top and took the fourth and final set 25-22.
Â
The match marks the Marauders' first loss of the season after going 2-0 against the Lakehead Thunderwolves at the beginning of November.
Â
The Marauders will face Brock again in their home opener on Sunday at 1pm for the final match of the series.
