The McMaster Marauders women's basketball team took care of business, defeating the Algoma Thunderbirds 73-53 on Friday night.
On a high from their last game and win, the Marauders hit the court running. The team put away 19 early points in the first quarter, while holding the Thunderbirds to shooting 5-17 from the field goal range and 0-5 from the three point range.
Mia Spadafora was a sharp shooter in the second quarter - firing away two jumpers and two back-to-back threes, with about six minutes remaining in the period. The team collectively knocked down 20 points in the second quarter, plus an additional 23 in the third to give them the game.
Sarah Gates led all scorers with 23 points and 13 rebounds, while Jenna Button packed away six points of her own alongside five assists and four rebounds.
The Marauders played dominant on the boards grabbing 46 rebounds in order to pick up their fourth win of the season going 73-53. The squad currently stands second in the OUA West, going 4-1.
NEXT UP: The Marauders will play again tomorrow back at the George Leach Centre for their second game of the two game series in Sault St. Marie.
