The McMaster Marauders men's basketball team defeated the Guelph Gryphons 92-82 on Saturday evening at Burridge Gym.
Mike Demagus led all players in points scored, with 26 in his 23 minutes of play, while also shooting 64.3% from field goal range. Jordan Henry also played a strong game, putting up 17 points, four assists and three rebounds.
The team walked into the match fired up and set the tone early in the first quarter. Knocking down 32 points in the first - going 10-19 from field goal with the addition of four threes and eight free throws. Mychael Paulo put up a three-point shot, with six minutes remaining in the first quarter, to put the Marauders up 13-11. That three put the Marauders in the lead, and they held it for the remainder of the game.
After the first quarter, it was back and fourth basketball for both teams. The Marauders kept hustling and kept the Gryphons at bay. Late in the fourth, the Marauders held the largest lead of the night by 21 points at 88-67. Despite three technical fouls, the squad played composed basketball and came out of the fourth with a final score of 92-82.
With the win, the Marauders now move up to 3-1 as they capture their third straight victory and currently sit in second OUA West division.
