The McMaster Marauders women's basketball team fell to the Guelph Gryphons 54-82, on their first away game of the season.
Sarah Gates led the Marauders scoring 17 total points in her 29 minutes of action. While Arianne Soriano put up four assists, three turnovers and two rebounds during her 15 game time minutes.
The squad was off to a slow start in the first half, and the Gryphons swooped in to take the lead. Starting the second half with a score of 27-49, the Marauders did not shy away from the challenge and came out hustling. They attempted to close the point gap, while knocking down 16 points in the third quarter.
15 seconds into the fourth, Gates hit a three after a defensive rebound from Cassandra Joli-Coeur. The play put the Marauders on a good note and they were able to control and slow the fourth. After Gates' three, Amy Stinson responded and locked away another three-pointer. The squad played heavy defence throughout the match and kept the Gryphons with a shooting percentage of 20% from the field goal range in the final quarter.
In an unlucky game, the team continued taking shots, however, they were just unable to sink them.
The Marauders look to bounce back and come out strong as the teams will face off again on Nov. 13th at Burridge Gym. Tip off is set for 1PM.
