Continuing to push forward open dialogue, and the sharing of experiences, men's basketball player Kwasi Adu-Poku and his organization, the Reach Series, are launching a basketball focused discussion later this month titled, Hoopers Talk!
Given the events relating to COVID-19 and the resulting season cancellation, athletes throughout the league have experienced a variety of emotions. Adu-Poku intends to promote a space of communal support amongst OUA basketball players, as they navigate through the trials of losing a season, studying and working from home, and focusing on their physical and mental health.
"We are used to competing on the court, but a space for us to relate off of it may prove to be a great way to help athletes foster healthy connections outside of their sport," said Adu-Poku.
Adu-Poku's current teammates, Brandon Bernard, and Tristan Lindo, will serve as moderators for the event, while former Marauder men's basketball player, David McCulloch, has been listed as a panelist.
The event is targeted towards men's basketball players in the OUA, but Adu-Poku hopes to grow it into an initiative that serves a purpose outside of just his sport.
"I know a panel like this would benefit all athletes," Adu-Poku explained, "but I would want to focus on a certain demographic to start with."
