History

The Marauders swept their season series against the Thunderwolves last year, as they have done for at least the past 16 games, taking their first match in straight sets, and followed that effort up a day later with a five set victory.

Jessie Nairn led all Marauders with 31.5 points across both games, accounting for 24 kills and three service aces in the series. Equally as impressive was Kamila Haase who was good for a series total of seven aces and seven blocks.

What's Good

McMaster

  • The Marauders recorded season-highs in total attacks and digs in their last game against the Waterloo Warriors, with 159 hits and 68 digs.
  • A competitive team across most statistical categories, the Marauders are third in the OUA in solo blocks, meeting their opponents at the net 41 times this season.
  • Trending in the right direction, the Marauders recorded 22 aces in their last two matches for an average of 2.2 per set.

Lakehead

  • The Thunderwolves went into the break after playing the fourth most matches and sixth most sets in the OUA with eight games, and 32 sets, coming into the new year with much needed fresh legs.
  • After picking up their first win of the season against the Nipissing Lakers, 3-2 at home, the Thunderwolves ended 2019 with a 3-1 folly against the Queen's Gaels.
  • Despite their record, the Thunderwolves lead the OUA in blocks per set averaging 2.42.

League Leaders

McMaster

RS Jessie Nairn – A 2019 OUA West first-team all-star, Nairn is seventh in the OUA in kills per set and points per set with 2.93 and 3.7, respectively.

M Kamila Haase – A big part of the Marauders defensive success, she leads her team and is ranked 10th in the OUA in blocks per set with 0.78.

Lakehead

MH Gillian Hansen – It's no wonder the Thunderwolves lead the OUA in blocks, with a middle-hitter in Hansen who also leads the league in solo blocks with 17, and total blocks with 37.

MH Meghan Routier – Recorded five service aces in her teams win against Nipissing, as she averages 0.61 per set – the fourth best mark in the OUA.
