PREVIEW: NO. 7 MARAUDERS LOOK TO CONTINUE WINNING WAYS AGAINST DIVISIONAL RIVAL RAMS

Leaping into the new year on a three-game win streak, the No. 7 nationally ranked McMaster Marauders men's basketball team looks to stay on tread as they host central division rivals, the Ryerson Rams.

History
In their only meeting last season, the Rams came away victorious at the Burridge Gym 102-70. Prior to the loss, the Marauders had gone undefeated against the Rams at home, dating as far back as 2002.

Jordan Henry, in his rookie year at the time, led his side with 12 points, four rebounds, and three steals, while Brandon Bernard poured in 14 points off the bench in 20 minutes of action.

  • Effective on the box out, the Marauders lead the league in total rebounds per game averaging 46.2, outrebounding their opponents by an OUA fourth best margin of 5.6.
  • Equally as efficient on offense as they are tenacious on perimeter defence, the Marauders rank second in points per game averaging 86.5 points, while holding their opponents to an OUA second best 27.3 three-point percentage.
  • On their current three-game win streak, the Maroon have shot an impressive 44% from field goal range in that span hitting 92-210 from the floor.
 
Ryerson
  • The Rams ended 2019 on a winning note, dropping the Laurier Golden Hawks 77-62 on the road.
  • Defence has helped keep the Rams afloat at .500, holding their opponents to an OUA second best 36.9 field goal percentage, and a third best 70.8 points allowed.
  • An ensuing battle on the perimeter may exist, as the Rams look to meet the Marauders excellent defence hitting 9.6 three-pointers per game – fourth in the OUA.

C Connor Gilmore – Ranks seventh in the OUA in free-throw percentage shooting an impressive 83.9 percent from the charity line.

G Tevaun Kokko – A 2017 OUA second-team all-star. Currently ranked fourth in the OUA in points per game with 22.1.
 
F Jayden Frederick – Like his team, and offensive producer averaging an OUA fifth best 21.1 points per game.
