Men's Soccer: Marauders Unable to Solve Lancers in 1-1 Draw

McMaster out-shot Windsor 21-5 but could only score once Saturday

Scoring chances and possession came easily to the Marauders Saturday, but goals were a much tougher commodity to find at Ron Joyce Stadium.

McMaster (0-0-1) out-shot Windsor (0-0-1) 21-5 and forced nine saves from Lancers goalkeeper Kaneen Fells, but was left to split the points on the afternoon in a 1-1 draw to open the OUA season.

Fourth-year striker Dusan Kovacevic led all Marauders with six shots, while Yordan Stoyanov and Anand Sergeant had four apiece.

Sergeant provided the lone goal for the hosts, striking from a free kick in the 31st minute to open the scoring.

He and the Marauders were pegged back quickly, however, when Jonathan Agapito capped an incisive Lancers move in the 40th minute to level.

That was the breakthrough that either team found Saturday, as the Marauders rode superior possession to nine shots in the second half but found themselves unable to apply the decisive touch in front of goal.

NEXT UP: McMaster returns to competition quickly, with a trip to Waterloo to face the Laurier Golden Hawks on Sunday. That match will kick off at roughly 3:00 p.m. following the conclusion of the preceding women's match.
