Women's Soccer: Heartbreak For Marauders as Lions Snag a Winner in the 89th Minute

Mac conceded a minute from time in a 1-0 loss Wednesday

With little margin to play with Wednesday, the Marauders were left heartbroken when their opponents found the game's only goal with the final whistle just moments away.

The York Lions dramatically snagged all three points at Ron Joyce Stadium with a goal in the 89th minute, edging a closely-fought battle in difficult conditions 1-0.

Kiyani Johnson sealed the win for the visitors by latching onto a long ball from Farkhunda Muhtaj and scuffing past McMaster goalkeeper Jullianna Hifawi.

It was the game's lone goal on the Lions fourth shot on target, with the two teams combining for just seven on a grinding, offensively-starved night in blustery and wet weather.

With the result, McMaster fell to 3-4-1 on the season, with six matches remaining in conference play. The Marauders currently sit in the sixth and final playoff position in the OUA West.

NEXT UP: Mac remains on home turf in three days' time, when they open a weekend series against the Algoma Thunderbirds on Saturday, October 5. That match at Ron Joyce Stadium gets underway at 1:00 p.m.
