Men's Soccer: Mac Grinds Out a Point Against No. 4 York

The Marauders held the Lions off the score sheet for the first time since 2014 Wednesday

Chances were few and far between in a typically cagey match between the Marauders and Lions Wednesday, and ultimately, the teams were forced to share the points at Ron Joyce Stadium.

McMaster earned a point for the third straight match, and held York without a goal for the first time since the opening week of the 2014 season, by playing out a goalless draw under the lights on a cold and damp night in Hamilton.

Given the nod for his first career start as a Marauder in a high-profile match, Michael Costanzo earned his first clean sheet by saving all four shots he faced.

While Wednesday's match was characterized by defensive play for the most part, each team enjoyed a few half chances at goal and were denied by both quality goalkeeping and a lack of finishing touch.

McMaster's best opportunity to break the deadlock came in the second half, with winger Christian Cossidente nearly slotting in from point-blank range to end a devastating three-touch move in the 73rd minute.

NEXT UP: McMaster remains at home at Ron Joyce Stadium to host a weekend series against the winless Algoma Thunderbirds on Saturday, October 5 and Sunday, October 6. The first of those sees the Marauders kickoff at 3:00 p.m.
