Men's Soccer: Seven Marauders Find the Net in 8-0 Win over Thunderbirds

McMaster took a whopping 24 shots and directed 15 on goal Saturday

Scoring early and often Saturday, the Marauders got valuable experience for their younger players and three priceless points in the standings in a dominant win over the Algoma Thunderbirds.

Seven different Mac players found the back of the net, with Nic Matsos scoring twice in under two minutes, as McMaster sealed an 8-0 victory at Ron Joyce Stadium.

Matsos was joined on the score sheet by Joseph Guindy, Marcus Channer, Yordan Stoyanov, Cheikh Tchouambou, Alex Boue and Matt Monteiro, with Channer scoring his first career OUA goal in spectacular fashion.

It took Mac little time to swing the match in its favour, with Guindy striking in the eighth minute to open the floodgates by latching onto a rebound and firing into the gaping net.

The Thunderbirds were able to keep the Marauders at bay for another 30 minutes, before a late flurry to end the first half put the result beyond any doubt.

Channer was called upon to take a free kick at the edge of the Algoma box, and promptly curled a rising effort just inside the near post to cleanly beat the goalkeeper and push Mac ahead 2-0.

From there, Matsos put his stamp on the contest with goals in the 43rd minute and in first half stoppage time, and the Marauders entered the break with a 4-0 lead and little tension to be had.

Stoyanov kept momentum firmly in McMaster's corner to open the second half, when he lashed a short-range effort home in the 47th minute.

The match was largely academic from there, with Tchouambou scoring from a headed effort and Boue driving a heavy shot home from the edge of the box before Monteiro concluded the afternoon's scoring in the 88th.

NEXT UP: McMaster and Algoma resume their weekend series Sunday at Ron Joyce Stadium, with their match slated to kickoff at 2:00 p.m. following the preceding women's match.
