Their spot in the OUA postseason was already secured, but the Marauders had a chance to host the first step of their playoff journey on home field as they played the final match of the regular season Sunday.
Instead, the Brock Badgers found the game's only goal in the 71st minute, and overtook the Marauders for fourth in the OUA West division in the process to snatch home field advantage.
The teams will rematch Sunday's tilt in three days' time, with the Marauders heading to St. Catharines on Wednesday, October 23.
Sunday's game was played between the 20-yard lines in the early going, with neither team getting much of a chance to score until the 27
th minute, when Brock's Samantha Bayer stole the ball off a Marauder defender and got a shot off that went wide.
In the second half, the home side put some pressure on the Badgers, with most of it coming from Faye Stavropoulos, who had three quality chances. The first came in the 56
th minute, while the Marauders controlled the ball around the box and found Stavropoulos with a wide cross, but her ensuing shot went wide. Moments later, she had another opportunity, but the Badgers' keeper was able to corral the ball.
Stavropoulos had one more opportunity in the 63
rd minute, when she was awarded a free kick from just outside of the box. Her shot was on target but rang off the post and then the crossbar without crossing the line.
In the 71
st minute, the Badgers scored the lone goal of the match when Bayer's initial shot hit the crossbar and came to Erica D'Alesio, who tapped it into the open net.
While the Marauders had chances to even up the match, they were unable to get anything on goal during the waning time on the clock.
