Women's Soccer: Marauders Get Revenge, Spot in OUA Quarterfinals with 1-0 Win over Badgers

Lindsay Bosveld scored the game’s lone goal in the 47th minute

Just three days removed from suffering a season-closing loss to the Brock Badgers at Ron Joyce Stadium, the Marauders shook off the disappointment of that result to turn the tables when it really mattered.

McMaster earned its revenge and a place in the OUA quarterfinals with a 1-0 win over Brock in St. Catharines Wednesday, as the conference playoffs opened across Ontario.

Striker Lindsay Bosveld scored the game's lone goal in the 47th minute, while Juliana Hifawi stopped the only shot she faced to earn the clean sheet.

With the win, the Marauders will head to London on Sunday, October 27 to resume hostilities with the Western Mustangs, who stand as the OUA West's top seed. Mac earned one point from two encounters with Western in the regular season, drawing the Mustangs 0-0 in their September 29 meeting in London.

The visiting Marauders enjoyed a slew of scoring chances, and directed 19 shots toward the Badgers net while forcing six saves from goalkeeper Marilena Spagnolo.

Bosveld and winger Jade Smith were the leading edge of that attack, notching eight and six of those shots respectively.

It was no surprise then, that it was the former who broke the deadlock between the two teams just two minutes after halftime.

The veteran forward took control of the ball just outside the Brock 18-yard box and struck a left-footed effort across her body that clipped the right post on its way across the goal line.

That was all the visitors needed offensively to book their spot in the OUA's final eight for the second consecutive season.
