Men's Basketball: Mac Slumps in Fourth Quarter to lose 93-79 to Lakehead

The Marauders fell to 7-9

A slim early lead evaporated down the stretch for McMaster Saturday, as turnovers and foul troubles consigned the Marauders to a weekend split with the Lakehead Thunderwolves.

Mac turned the ball over 27 times and sent Lakehead to the free throw line for 37 attempts, dropping a 93-79 decision on home court.

Having beaten the Thunderwolves 77-71 the night before, the Marauders were forced to split the weekend series, and dropped to 7-9 in OUA play as a result.

McMaster led by as many as nine, surging early in the third quarter. But that lead had disappeared entirely by the end of the third, before the Marauders faded late to be outscored by 14 in the fourth.

The pair of Connor Gilmore and Jordan Henry led the Marauders with 16 and 14 points respectively, while Gilmore notched his second double double in as many days with 10 rebounds.

Having accomplished his first double double as a Marauder the night before, rookie guard Jordan Henry finished the night just one assist from the distinction Saturday, ending the afternoon with nine.

The Thunderwolves mounted a 7-0 run to close the third quarter, drawing even with their hosts at the buzzer and wrested the initiative from the Marauders as the teams' sized up the fourth.

There, Lakehead exploded for 30 points and held McMaster to just 14, causing 12 turnovers from the home side in the process to put the win beyond doubt late.

NEXT UP: The Marauders head to Windsor to open a two-game road swing against the Lancers on Wednesday, January 23. That game will tip off at 8:00 p.m. and be streamed live on OUA.tv.
