Men's Basketball: Henry's Offensive Showcase Helps Marauders Past Lancers 84-80

The rookie guard set a new single-game career high with 25 points Wednesday

Putting his considerable talents on display Wednesday, McMaster's rookie guard Jordan Henry set a new offensive benchmark in a winning effort on the road.

The Pickering, Ont. native poured in 25 points on a blistering 10 of 15 shooting from the field to set a new single-game career high and lead the Marauders to an 84-80 victory over the Windsor Lancers.

Henry bettered his previous offensive benchmark, achieved December 1 against the Queen's Gaels, by four points.

With their win, the Marauders improved to 8-9 in OUA play this season, and further solidified their hold on the fourth spot in the OUA West division.

Veteran forward Connor Gilmore steered McMaster's offence alongside Henry, scoring 20 points and making good on seven of eight visits to the free throw line.

Continuing his strong play since being injected into the Marauders lineup in the New Year, Damiann Prehay finished the night just one rebound shy of a double double, with 12 points and nine boards.

McMaster scraped out the victory despite enduring a cold shooting stretch in the second half, as the Marauders hit just 27 per cent from the field in the half and were outscored 26-18 in the third quarter.

That downturn cut Mac's lead to just two through three quarters from its high of 11.

With the game in the balance in the fourth, Henry found opportune moments for both of his three-pointers on the night, and twice rebuffed Windsor after the Lancers had pulled to within a possession.

A costly mistake from the Lancers while trailing 80-78 saw Lucas Orlita miss Anthony Zrvnar with a pass to the wing, and the Marauders punished their hosts on the other end when Gilmore made good on both foul shots after taking contact down low.

Two possessions later, the game was over, as Gilmore and Henry both added from the line.

NEXT UP: McMaster remains on the road, travelling to Waterloo to take on the 3-13 Warriors at the Physical Activity Centre. That game will get underway at 8:00 p.m. and be streamed live on OUA.tv.
