Women's Soccer: Goold's Late Set Piece Sends Marauders to Second Consecutive Win

The defender scored the lone goal Friday in North York

It took 70 minutes, but the Marauders found a breakthrough, and an important road victory, in North York Friday.

Avenging a September loss at Ron Joyce Stadium, McMaster defeated York 1-0 on the strength of a free kick goal from defender Carling Goold.

With the two teams both having their share of scoring opportunities, Mac goalkeeper Juliana Hifawi was called into action eight times in the win, turning aside all of the shots she faced for her second clean sheet of 2018.

The win improved McMaster to 4-3-3 on the season, with 15 points placing the Marauders third in the OUA West division with just six games to play before the onset of the conference playoffs.

Goold's pivotal game-winner was her first goal as a Marauder, as the former Drake Bulldog scored in her 10th appearance for McMaster.

NEXT UP: The Marauders return to Ron Joyce Stadium on Sunday, September 30, as they welcome the Guelph Gryphons for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
